The Vodafone network is run by TPG Telecom. As at September 2026 the brands selling plans on it include Vodafone, TPG, iiNet, Internode, felix, Lebara, Kogan Mobile, Lycamobile and Moose Mobile. Vodafone says its network now covers 99% of the Australian population and around 1.2 million km².
That coverage figure is much larger than it was before 2025, because since 30 January 2025 Vodafone customers have used Optus's regional towers under a sharing agreement. If you ruled out Vodafone or one of its resellers a few years ago because of regional coverage, the picture has changed, though it is still worth checking the map for the places you go.

TPG and Optus signed regional network and spectrum sharing agreements that the ACCC said on 5 September 2024 it would not oppose. The initial term is 11 years, with an option for TPG to extend by five, and the shared area is home to around 17% of Australians. TPG says the sharing went live on 30 January 2025, giving its customers access to about 2,500 Optus regional towers.
It is not roaming. TPG says the two companies share the 4G and 5G radio network in regional areas while each continues to run its own core network. Vodafone said the change would take its coverage from around 400,000 km² to around 1,000,000 km², and its network page now gives around 1.2 million km² and 99% of the population. Vodafone also says its customers can use 5G in the regional areas where it is already available.
This deal came after an earlier attempt failed. In December 2022 the ACCC refused to authorise a proposed regional network arrangement between Telstra and TPG, and the Australian Competition Tribunal affirmed that decision on 21 June 2023.

Vodafone says you need a 5G-approved device, an eligible current plan and to be in a 5G coverage area. TPG Telecom describes its 5G as reaching over 85% of the population in Australia's 10 largest cities and regions; that is not a national figure. Vodafone's 5G page gives a count of more than 4,200 5G sites nationally as of 2025. The ACMA's February 2026 report counted 3,759 TPG 5G sites at 31 January 2025, compared with 6,421 for Telstra and 4,939 for Optus.
Among independent measures, Opensignal's May 2026 Australia report (based on data from January to March 2026) gave Vodafone its upload speed awards. We do not rank networks; the same report gave coverage awards to Telstra, which is a reminder that different measures favour different networks.
Resellers vary. felix says 5G is available in select areas, Lebara lists which of its plans include 5G, Kogan Mobile includes it on some plans, and Lycamobile on its 5G plans only.
Vodafone was the first network to close 3G. TPG had announced a date of 15 December 2023, and Vodafone says it switched 3G off in January 2024. Since then, a phone needs 4G with Voice over LTE (VoLTE) to make calls on the Vodafone network. Vodafone says VoLTE is free and all its prepaid recharges support it.
In October 2025 Vodafone said it had found some older Samsung handsets that were permanently set to make 000 calls over Vodafone's closed 3G network. Those phones need a software update or replacement, and under the ACMA's emergency-call rules, phones that cannot reach 000 are blocked from the network. Vodafone also says customers who do not update their phone software by 20 December 2026 will lose Wi-Fi Calling, including emergency calls over Wi-Fi. Lycamobile moved from Telstra's network to Vodafone, with the migration starting on 24 May 2024 and finishing by the end of June 2024. Moose Mobile now uses the Vodafone 4G and 5G networks and has been moving its remaining Optus customers across during 2026. Westnet no longer sells SIM-only plans and points customers to iiNet. Lists that still show Lycamobile on Telstra or Moose on Optus are out of date.
Use Vodafone's coverage map, which since 30 June 2026 has had to follow the ACMA's standard categories. Resellers such as felix, Lebara and Kogan are supplied with the same maps. Look up home, work and anywhere you travel regularly, and pay attention to the difference between good and basic coverage: basic coverage outdoors often means poor coverage indoors.
