How we make money
Last updated: 26 October 2026
Better Rate Mate is free to use. You never pay us. Instead, we may be paid by the providers whose products we feature or refer you to. This page explains how that works, so you can take it into account when you use our site.
Who we are
Better Rate Mate is a trading name of AM Marketing Group Pty Ltd, ABN 37 613 053 286. Postal address: P.O. Box 69, Gunning NSW 2581.Email: [email protected].
Who pays us
Providers may pay us a commission, a referral fee or a cost-per-action payment. A cost-per-action payment is made when you take a set action, such as applying, getting a quote or signing up. These payments may come from a provider directly or through an affiliate network such as impact.com.
Some payments are for leads or enquiries that we pass on with your consent.
Payment amounts differ between providers and products. A commission doesn't change the price a provider offers you.
Sponsored placements and partner links
When a placement or link is paid for, we label it. You will see one of these labels:
- Sponsored. Small print: "This placement is paid for by the provider. It is shown separately from our other results."
- Sponsored. We may earn a commission. How we're paid. This label appears next to a link, and "How we're paid" links to this page.
Paid placements are shown separately from our other results. We never mix them into an alphabetical list or a list sorted by a stated measure.
Partner links can take you to the provider's site or to a comparison partner's site. Their terms and privacy policy apply there.
How we order information
Our tables are ordered in one of two ways:
- Alphabetically by provider or issuer, and labelled "not a ranking".
- By one objective measure that the table states. Examples are market share, premium for the largest insurers and health funds, or lowest standard price for the full period on long-expiry mobile plans.
If a table is ever sorted a different way, the table tells you how.
We don't rank or recommend cards, lenders, insurers or networks. Commission doesn't decide the order of a table or what is in it.
We read our data from providers' own pages, Product Disclosure Statements (PDSs), Target Market Determinations (TMDs), key facts sheets, and government or regulator data. We show the date we checked it. We don't have a live product feed, so check the details with the provider before you decide.
What we cover, and what we don't
We don't compare every provider or product. Our categories are Energy, Internet, Solar, Loans (including home loans, car loans and personal loans), Mobile, Car Insurance, Home Insurance, Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Income Protection, Business Insurance, Travel Insurance, Pet Insurance, Overseas Visitor Cover and Credit Cards.
We have published reviews of 15 home lenders and 15 health funds, and profiles of 8 energy retailers. Within each category we cover a selection of providers, and that selection can change.
If a provider isn't on our site, that doesn't mean it is worse. Where relevant, our guides link to free government comparison tools, such as Energy Made Easy, Victorian Energy Compare and privatehealth.gov.au, where you can see more options.
