Our editorial policy

Better Rate Mate publishes general information to help people understand and compare household bills and financial products in Australia. This page explains how we research, date, present and correct that information.

How we research

We build our guides and tables from primary sources. These include ASIC's Moneysmart, the ATO, APRA, the RBA, the AER, state revenue offices, the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman and PrivateHealth.gov.au, and legislation on the Federal Register of Legislation. We also read providers' own Product Disclosure Statements (PDSs), Target Market Determinations (TMDs), key facts sheets, Critical Information Summaries and product pages.

We cite each source with the date we accessed it. Figures in our tables are read from these sources, and each row shows the date the figure was checked.

Keeping content up to date

Most pages show a "Last reviewed" date, and table rows show when each figure was last checked. We don't use a live product feed, so a provider's current offer may differ from what we show. Please check the details with the provider before you decide.

Credit card tables are re-checked monthly. Any credit card row older than 45 days is removed until it has been re-checked.

How we present products

We list products in alphabetical order by provider or issuer, and label those tables "not a ranking". Where a table is sorted instead, it uses one measure and says what that measure is. We don't rank or recommend providers or products, and we avoid "best" picks.

Our content is general information, not personal advice. We don't compare every provider or product, and each table shows a selection of products, not every one available.

Commercial relationships and our content

We may earn a commission or other payment from providers. We don't let those payments decide what we write, which products appear in a table, or the order they appear in.

When we show a paid placement, it will be labelled "Sponsored" and kept separate from our other results. We don't let providers review or approve our content before it is published.

Who writes and reviews our content

Our guides are currently credited to the Better Rate Mate Editorial Team. When a guide has a named author or reviewer, we will show their name and relevant background on the page.

We use AI to assist with content, but it is reviewed by our team before it is published.

Corrections

If you think something on our site is wrong, tell us through our contact form or by email at [email protected]. We aim to check the point against the source, fix it if it is wrong, and update the date on the page.
