GloBird Energy is a Melbourne-based electricity and gas retailer founded by John McCluskey. It sells to households in Victoria, NSW, South Australia and south-east Queensland (the Energex network), and is best known for plans built around free electricity in the middle of the day and for its ZEROHERO battery plan.

Several GloBird plans charge nothing for usage during a set window in the middle of the day. FreeLunch gives two free hours a day. FOUR4FREE charges $0.00 per kWh from 11am to 3pm for residential homes in Victoria, Queensland, NSW and SA. These plans are designed for households that can shift washing, dishwashing, pool pumps, hot water or EV charging into the middle of the day; rates outside the window matter just as much.
Since 1 July 2026 every retailer with more than 1,000 customers in NSW, south-east Queensland and SA must also offer the government's Solar Sharer plan with three free hours, so free-midday plans are no longer unique. ZEROHERO is a virtual power plant offer for households with a battery and smart meter in NSW, SA, Queensland (Energex) or Victoria. It charges $0.00 for usage from 12pm to 3pm for customers joining from 1 July 2026 (11am to 2pm for earlier joiners), pays $1 a day when you draw zero power from the grid during the evening peak, and pays time-of-day feed-in rates plus a bonus credit on evening exports. It comes with eligibility conditions, including owning the system, a reliable internet connection, no life support at the premises and not being in another VPP.
WHOLESAVE passes through wholesale prices in exchange for a membership fee, which can pay off for households that can respond to price signals but exposes you to price spikes. EASYEV is aimed at electric vehicle owners. Read the fact sheet for how each is charged before you compare it with a conventional plan.
Retailers must publish their generally available plans to the government comparators: Energy Made Easy in NSW, Queensland, SA, Tasmania and the ACT, and Victorian Energy Compare in Victoria. Each plan there has a standard fact sheet listing every rate, fee and discount condition, which is the fairest way to line GloBird's plans up against everyone else's.
Start with how far below the reference price each plan is (the Default Market Offer in NSW, south-east Queensland and SA, or the Victorian Default Offer), then run your own annual usage from a recent bill through the shortlist. The same retailer can be among the cheapest in one network zone and not in another.
